This would be from the same brand of sentimental tripe that thinks that the story of the little match girl is an uplifting Christmas fable.

I have to say that I was expecting the cat to be thankful for having dinner come along.

Sentimental is one thing, mawkish is another - and it does rather leave you with an attitude of "eww, there's a dead cat in the sky above me"...

(Besides, it neither scans nor rhymes - how the HELL do you *sing* this?!?)
