I honestly don't understand why anyone *needs* to plagiarise. Honestly. We all do research, whether it is for fantasy or fiction. We have a plethora of words at our disposal. While we can pluck others' research from the internet or text books, we have our own words to display it-- our own interpretation, if you like.
Now if someone quotes directly, and I don't have a problem with that either, if, they acknowledge it, that's different. As you say, if they name their sources, I don't see that as plagiarism but acknowledging someone else's research.
We all take ideas from different sources. But I really don't understand why someone should quote verbatim and claim it as their own. That's kind of ridiculous.
