...when *libraries*, in a single American city, stock up on 1000 copies of your book and brace themselves for the onslaught by saying you can't reserve a copy ahead of time, it's first come first served.

And it's STILL a month before Harry's official release date...

A mere thousand copies? The wimps. My library system, which represents 3 or 5 counties in my city, has 1384 copies on order (I just checked) in print, with 1697 holds (reserves). There are 159 orders for the audio edition, with 114 reserves or holds on those. The figures cover the childrens, young adult, and adult collections.
