We now officially have Douglas squirrels (at least five of 'em!), grey squirrels, and now at least one chipmunk. Yep, saw the little guy just outside my office this morning - took a pic, but until I download it and decide if it's good enough to put online, this is pretty much what the critter looked like. Yep yep yep, a chipmunk.

He may be a refugee. They clear-cut another lot near us a couple of days ago. I saw logs that used to be 100-year-old cedars stacked neatly by the road, underneath a raped hillside covered in twisted remnants of roots and crumbling bare earth, and I wept.

I envy you having a chipmunk. There are none over here on Vancouver Island, and that's one crittur that I would love to see more of. However, it's probably best that noone has tried introducing then. We have grey squirrels that some idiot introduced, and no they're taking over the whole place, raping and pillaging, and have almost wiped out our native red ones. sigh.

Chipmunks are cute. I didn't get to see any, ehn i visited quite a few years ago. but I do remember my glee at seeing a squirrel for the first time and taking a photo. Everyone thought I was crazy, bu tI have a grey blur in the photo that makes me smile everytime I see it...

100 year old trees gone.... I am weeping too.

I love chipmunks. They were scampering all over the parts of Colorado I visited.

Is that natural forest that's being felled? That seems so wrong. The forestry round here is just like a giant crop. It's planted, tended and then harvested. It still looks a mess during the felling phase, but they'll plant more in due course.

I hate the clear-cutting.

On the other hand, I have some brown lettuce-eating rabbits to spare. Would you like them?
