Well, speaking as an atheist myself (like the guy who placed the ad), I find it hilarious.
After all, the debate over whether animals have souls was one of the fundamental schisms between the Irish Catholic church and the Roman Catholic church during the early middle ages. The IC eventually came under the RC and officially accepted their position (i.e. animals don't have souls), but of course I don't know any Irish Catholics who actually believe that, here nearly 1500 years later.
(For that matter, I don't know any pet owners who don't believe their animals have souls. Of course, I don't know many people who believe in the Rapture, and I haven't asked them about it.)
That ad's the funniest thing I've read in days, but then I'm an atheist. Were I not an atheist, the rapture would still strike me as a dodgy notion, well worth making fun of.
I really shouldn't be laughing. But I am! I say, good on the advertiser! He's offering a service he perceives a niche for; and being a humane, decent person in the face of religious insanity. of course, he's also taking the mick out the whole Rapture thing, of which I also approve.
And here's a question: If animals don't have souls, why would they need patron saints?
Aw darn it. I've been broke lately; wish I'd thought of that because I'm SURE folks have been coughing up the $50 for pet sitting post-Rapture. Maybe I can start an LA-area branch. Hmm.
(btw, of course creatures have souls. But they're smart enough to avoid Heaven.)
I think that's hilarious. And I wonder if I could start an Illinois branch. I'm not an atheist, but am probably not the right sort of Christian to be raptured.
Someone has enterprise and is willing to take advantage of the stupid and the gullible (no offense meant to those who believe in the Rapture). Very capitalist of him :)
I too found this hilarious. Well done that chap for seeing a gap in the market! :)
The Rapture is not something I've ever noticed UK Christians believing in, so the whole concept seems alien and that advert pokes fun at it very successfully.

I wonder if anyone's taken him up on the offer?
