Sounds of the sea

It makes me very sad to think that some day - some day soon - the last living blue whale on earth will be swimming through the oceans of earth calling for a mate that will never hear the call again.

I saw a blue whale on a whale-watching expedition the summer after I graduated high school and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I've also seen humpbacks and barnacle whales, but never a killer whale in the wild.

The thought of their decline makes me sad and angry. Their massive grace and majesty left such an impression on me - I am a solid supporter of the Ocean Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund, and a small charity dedicated to whales and I pray more people realize they need help.
