I pretty much have a functionalist bias there, I think. Fine architecture is nice, but only if I have a reasonable chance of walking out of there with a bunch of books I want. I haven't been to the one in Maastricht, but I spent a year living two blocks from a Selexyz and the selection and pricing there were a major reason I was so excited to get a Kindle. (Admittedly this is largely my own fault, since I was mostly looking for English-language books. But I was also disappointed in some areas where I'd have been willing to get ones in Dutch.)
